The woman who was allegedly driving the car that hit and killed two young mechanics while they were working on a broken-down bus on the Sunshine Coast has been charged over their deaths.
Lleyton Bartlett, 22, from Baringa, and his colleague, Aaron Pitt, 25, from Currimundi, had been sent to the bus at Woombye on Thursday by service company CDC Queensland, which is contracted by Translink.
As the pair worked to repair the bus on Nambour-Connection Road about 3:30pm, they were struck by a passing sedan.
Both men suffered critical injuries and were transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital, where they later died.
On Saturday afternoon, police confirmed that forensic crash unit investigators had charged a 43-year-old woman from Warana with dangerous driving causing death whilst adversely affected by an intoxicating substance.
The woman who drove the car that hit them was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was not physically injured.
The young age of the two men has shocked the Sunshine Coast community, and multiple tributes have appeared on social media.
A Translink spokesman also paid tribute to the two men, saying the company was "extremely saddened" about the incident.
"This is tragic news and we send our condolences to the families and staff involved," he said.
The woman will appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on June 24.
