A woman has spoken of her joy at finally being able to see her three grandchildren, after two years of almost-complete sight loss. Suzanne Roberts has praised the "phenomenal" care of the eye specialist who gave her back her sight - and just in time for Christmas.
Mrs Roberts' loss of vision was a result of "dense cataracts" in both of her eyes - and was so severe that she would often struggle to find her way back home after chatting with neighbours in the street, particularly in dull light. Mrs Roberts also found everyday tasks challenging, including simply making a cup of tea or doing a supermarket shop, her family have explained.
Earlier this year, Mrs Roberts' condition worsened after a fall left her with a permanent sling for an elbow injury and a detached retina. Having being diagnosed with epilepsy and migraines as well, Mrs Roberts was very dependent on her daughter Bethan and sister Dawn for shopping, meals, housework and care - but that has all changed after successful cataract treatment.
