Woman behind much-loved Edinburgh cafe makes emotional farewell post

The much-loved woman behind a popular café, who has earned rave reviews over the past decade or so that she has been running it, has announced the sad news that she is closing and stepping down.

However, Meg (who wishes to be known only by her first name) reassured fans of Braw Café, which is regularly frequented by visitors to the city and residents alike, that it would be reopening under new management in the spring.

Posting on the official Facebook account for the café, which is found on Belford Road near to Dean Village, Meg was very grateful to the following she has built up over the time she has been there.

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year, she wrote: "Braw is officially closed. Thank you to all of my customers over the last eleven years.

"I am very grateful to have met so many fabulous, kind and fascinating people. The premises will reopen under new management in the spring.

"Thank you for all the wonderful years."

Speaking about the change to Edinburgh Live , Meg confirmed that the new management would be carrying on her environmentally-friendly ways by using Edinburgh company Vegware's compostable packaging.

She added: "I like to push environmental issues and have used Vegware as their products are compostable and actually composted, the process of handing over the premises hinged on social responsibility to the community. I am pleased to report that the guy I have chosen to reopen Braw Cafe in spring meets these requirements."

Though she is leaving, Meg confirmed she'll be taking many great memories with her, stating that she will miss the many interesting people she has met over the years.

Fans of the little cafe flocked to thank her for her time there and wish her well for the future.

One fan responded: "I still think about Friday Mac n Cheese, the best I have ever had! All the best for the future Meg, was a pleasure to have met you."

While another gushed: "My lentil soup and cheese scone lunches were some of my favourite parts of working on Belford Road, but I’ll always remember the chats best of all. Thanks for everything, and good luck with whatever is next."
