A man has been left with serious facial injuries after he was assaulted by a woman armed with a glass bottle in a suspected homophobic attack in east London.

Police are trying to trace the woman following the attack, which is being treated as a hate crime.

The victim was walking along Homerton High Street around 5.15am on Sunday (October 27) when he was subjected to homophobic verbal abuse, before being seriously assaulted with a glass bottle by a woman he did not know.

She then left the scene.

“The victim presented himself at hospital with serious injuries to his face,” said the Met police in a statement on Tuesday.
