A woman was rescued from a house fire, and then arrested on suspicion of arson.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) and Merseyside Police were both called to Petersfield Close in Netherton after reports of a fire at around midday. Three fire engines rushed to the scene and on arrival crews found the first floor on fire.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel to put the fire out with one person being rescued from the house and handed over to the care of paramedics. A joint investigation into the cause of the fire is being carried out by both MFRS and Merseyside Police.

Merseyside Police confirmed officers arrested a 22-year-old on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. The woman was taken to hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation.
MFRS spokesperson said: "Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service was called to Petersfield Close, Netherton, on Tuesday 5 July. Crews were alerted at 11.43am and on scene at 11.50am. Three fire engines attended.
"On arrival crews found the first floor of a property to be well alight. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.
"One person was rescued from the property by firefighters and handed into the care of paramedics. Fire crews carried out home fire safety checks at neighbouring properties before leaving the scene at 1.53pm.
"A joint investigation into the cause of the fire is carried out between MFRS and Merseyside Police."
