A Virginia woman has been arrested by Burbank police for allegedly posing as a nurse and treating patients at several Southern California hospitals. Amanda Leeann Porter, 44, was found to be impersonating a real registered nurse and working at Los Angeles County hospitals without a license.
The investigation began in May 2024 when Burbank police received a report about a woman impersonating a registered nurse at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center. Subsequent investigations revealed that the woman in question was Porter, who had applied for and obtained a nursing position at the medical center.
Porter oversaw around 60 patients between April 8 and May 8 while fraudulently employed at the hospital. She received two paychecks before being terminated. It was discovered that Porter does not hold a nursing license and is on federal probation for a fraud violation in Virginia.
Further investigations revealed that Porter had obtained employment at various LA-area hospitals using false identities. Burbank police believe she may have committed similar offenses in the Southern California area over the past year.
Porter was arrested on Nov. 7 in connection with an arrest warrant after a violation at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Santa Clarita. Charges including identity theft, false impersonation, and grand theft were filed against her, and she is currently being held without bail.
Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center acknowledged the incident and stated that Porter was promptly terminated once her falsified credentials were discovered. The hospital ensured that appropriate authorities were notified and patients were informed. They emphasized their commitment to quality and safety in patient care.
The Burbank Police Department is urging anyone with additional information about the case to come forward. Source reached out to Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center for comment but has not received a response at this time.
