Woman arrested after serious sexual assault in city centre

A woman has been arrested after a sexual assault in the city centre.

At 3am this morning Merseyside Police were called to the Podworks Hotel on Henry Street. Security staff told police that a woman had left the hotel in distress.

After a short search officers managed to locate her and the woman was taken to hospital where she was treated for injuries sustained during the incident. It is believed that she was subjected to a serious sexual assault.

A 37-year-old woman from Stoke-on-Trent has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault of a female and has been taken to a police station where she will be interviewed by detectives.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Parry, said: "The 34-year-old victim is currently supported by officers from the specialist Unity team. She is extremely distressed and is currently being treated at hospital for injuries sustained during the incident.

"Crime Scene Investigators have carried out forensic examinations at the scene and I would appeal to anyone who was staying at the hotel, who saw or heard anything, or who has any information which could help us with our inquiries to contact us."
