Woman arrested after police find £2,000 worth of Stanley Cups in her car

A woman has been arrested after police pulled her over to find a massive haul of stolen Stanley Cups in her car.

The 23-year-old woman had stashed thousands of pounds worth of the super popular items in her footwells, back seat and boot.

The incident, in America, saw officers seize the 65 cups with an estimated value of $2,500 - around £2,000.

The woman was pulled over by police officers after staff in a shop saw her brazenly fill up a shopping trolley with the cups before strolling out without paying for any of them.

The incident happened in the city of Roseville in California, US.

A statement from the Roseville Police Department said: "Staff saw a woman take a shopping cart full of Stanley water bottles without paying for them.

"Roseville Police Officers responded to a retail store on the 6000 block of Stanford Ranch Road for a theft that just occurred. The suspect refused to stop for staff and stuffed her car with the stolen merchandise.

"An officer spotted the suspect vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. A 23-year-old Sacramento woman was arrested for Grand Theft. A subsequent search of her vehicle resulted in the recovery of 65 Stanley products valued at nearly $2500. The Roseville Police Department remains committed to stopping retail theft. #nothankyou #crimedoesntpay #notinroseville #greatworkofficers"

The Stanley Cups have become a trend in the UK, with them retailing at around £44 a go, but selling out almost as quickly as they come in stock.

Lucie Greene, founder of trend forecasting agency Light Years explained the popularity: “It’s part of a wider obsession around hydration as the latest wellness trend. It’s performative hydration.”
