Woman and son attacked by random man in Newham

A woman and her son were threatened and attacked with a knife by a lone man in east London, the Met Police has said.

The 13-year-old boy was walking through a park near Primark in High Street, E6, on the evening of April 23 when he was approached by a man who threatened him and demanded money.

They were spotted by the boy’s mother who had been nearby waiting for him. She ran over and pulled her son away before they left.

The pair returned to the area at 7.24pm and saw the man in the same area.

The mother went over to the suspect, who pulled out a knife and began waving it around, causing a cut just above her ear.

She was treated at hospital. The boy was not injured.

Police said the suspect fled the scene in the direction of Kempton Road as a crowd of people began to gather and although police were called to the scene, he wasn’t found.

Detective constable Sam Drury, said: “Following extensive enquiries we are now turning to the public for help in identifying this male.

“Please look at it carefully and share it among local community groups and forums. This was a horrible attack on a woman and her son and it is vital that we track this man down.”

Anyone who recognises the man should call 101 or tweet @MetCC ref CAD 5764/23APR23
