A 21-year-old Brit lost her leg and suffered life-threatening injuries in a horrific crash only an hour after she picked up her new motorbike.
Reegan Pauley had only just picked up her brand new motorcycle and had been riding it for only an hour when she collided with a lorry in Lincolnshire.
She suffered life-threatening injuries and had to be airlifted to hospital where she has remained for the last six months ever since the horrific crash in October, Hull Live reported .
In that time, she has undergone 18 surgeries in just the first two months, and lost a leg as well as the use of one of her arms.
She suffered a number of broken bones including shattering her pelvis, nerve damage to her right arm and sepsis.
Reegan is still waiting to have her right arm reconstructed and for repairs to the nerve damage she suffered.
Reegan, from Grimsby, and her mum, Kylie Dennehy, told Hull Live what life has been like since the accident.
Kylie said: "It's really not been easy seeing my baby girl go through something so terrifying.
"I've been with her every step of the way and the only thing that's got me through it is Reegan's positivity throughout it all.
“Her condition doesn't seem to phase her and she's started being able to do things for herself again."
Reegan added she had even been able to make the pair a cup of tea.
She has been in hospital since October and has been treated for numerous infections, as well as sepsis and has undergone skin grafts but remains unable to walk, with movement in only one arm.
The family have adapted their home in Grimsby to have wheelchair ramps at the doors, handrails and a stairlift.
They are hoping to get Reegan a brand new wheelchair to suit her needs and anything else she may need to live a normal life once again.
When asked about what her long-term goals are, Reegan said: "I just want to live a good life and be happy really.
“I've been living one day at a time since the accident so haven't imagined what I'll be able to do in the future.
"I'm hoping to get a prosthetic leg soon so that I'll be able to move about a bit more freely and won't need a wheelchair all the time.
“Before the accident, I really wanted to go into childcare because I love children, so I'll maybe do that in the future, all depending on how independent I am.
"Because of the nerve damage in my right arm, I can only use my left arm at the minute so I need to get used to that. It is difficult only having the one arm."
Kylie added: "The next goal is to get Reegan back home and out of hospital. We have been making lots of trips to Leeds for specialist appointments since October and it will be nice to get her settled again.
"We're hoping in the next week or two that Reegan will permanently be discharged and will come live back home after months of being in hospital."
Reegan's family and friends are now putting their fundraising skills to the test to raise some money for a new wheelchair.
The money raised will also go towards paying for any additional adaptations she may need.
Kylie continued: "We have some great friends that are taking part in some fundraising activities to raise the money needed for some new adaptations. They are taking part in the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, and Reegan's dad and I will be cheering them on at the finish line and will provide them with a much needed drink afterwards.
"Her dad and I will also be doing a sponsored skydive to raise some money, which we will be funding ourselves. I am absolutely petrified of heights but I'm really looking forward to it and will be brave for Reegan.
"We had a goal of raising £1500 originally and have so far raised £3300, which we are completely blown away by. Any contribution would be so helpful"
