Wolves vs Liverpool LIVE: Premier League result, latest updates and fan reaction

Elation: Andre celebrates his stoppage-time winner for Wolves against Liverpool - (Nick Potts/PA Wire)

Wolves vs Liverpool LIVE!

Liverpool fell to a shock last-gasp defeat by Wolves in the Premier League on Tuesday night. Brazilian midfielder Andre, helped by a huge deflection off Joe Gomez, netted a dramatic stoppage-time winner for the top-flight’s bottom club as they upset the defending champions to continue their surprise recent resurgence under Rob Edwards.

Though still rooted to the foot of the table with relegation to the Championship surely inevitable, Wolves are at least now showing fight and restoring pride following an extremely difficult campaign having also stunned local rivals Aston Villa last week and held leaders Arsenal to a draw. They initially took the lead against Liverpool through another goal from substitute Rodrigo Gomes, whose fine lofted effort was followed by a Jean-Ricner Bellegarde error and swift equaliser from Mohamed Salah - who scored his first in the league since November 1 - as a previously tame contest suddenly burst into life.

Wolves would not be denied though as Andre popped up in the fourth minute of stoppage time, dealing a sizable blow to Liverpool’s hopes of a top-five finish this term as the two sides prepare to do it all again at Molineux in the FA Cup fifth round on Friday night. Follow Wolves vs Liverpool live below!

Wolves 2-1 Liverpool

Tuesday 3 March 2026 22:47 , George Flood

Wolves had not won back-to-back league games since April 2025, tonight they are celebrating taking down the champions in just their third top-flight victory of the season - having also beaten local rivals Aston Villa and recently held leaders Arsenal in similarly dramatic fashion.

Nowhere near good enough from Liverpool, who stay fifth and miss the chance to go above Villa into fourth on goal difference before Unai Emery’s side host sixth-place Chelsea tomorrow night.

They will go down to sixth on goal difference if Chelsea win at Villa Park.

Conceding late goals has been a recurring theme of a very disappointing season.

These two sides will do it all again at Molineux on Friday night, with an FA Cup quarter-final place up for grabs.

Wolves 2-1 Liverpool

Tuesday 3 March 2026 22:23 , George Flood

Wow. Wow. Wow. What a finish.

Who on earth saw that wild ending coming after the drabbest of drab first halves?!

Back-to-back wins for Wolves for the first time this season - and both against Champions League chasers, no less.

Only their second victory over Liverpool in the last 19 league meetings and a first since February 2023.

They remain bottom of the table and 11 points from safety with eight matches left having played two games more than most of their rivals, so relegation is still surely inevitable.

But they aren’t going down without a fight!

Edwards celebrates passionately with the home fans at the final whistle.

Great scenes amid what has been a very difficult campaign for the club.

Liverpool are far from done themselves...

GOAL! Wolves 1-1 Liverpool | Mohamed Salah 83'

Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:58 , George Flood

83 mins: They are level!

A dreadful error from Bellegarde and Salah seizes on it, sprinting into the box and finishing with the outside of the boot for his first Premier League goal since November 1.

Should Jose Sa have kept that out? He got a hand to it.

Game on...

Wolves 1-0 Liverpool

Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:52 , George Flood

Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:50 , George Flood

76 mins: Wolves steer Salah’s corner away and look like they have numbers on the break for a moment, but Liverpool win it back and a rogue pass sails straight out of play for a goal kick.

Into the last 15 minutes at Molineux, where a goalless draw is nowhere near good enough for Liverpool in their quest for Champions League qualification.

Wolves 0-0 Liverpool

Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:49 , George Flood

74 mins: Liverpool earn yet another corner down the right, which Salah will take.

If anyone is losing track on the Gomes/Gomez front tonight by the way, I don’t blame you.

Wolves 0-0 Liverpool

Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:47 , George Flood

Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:39 , George Flood

The triple sub has given Wolves more pace and impetus going forward too.

Wolves 0-0 Liverpool

Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:35 , George Flood

Wolves 0-0 Liverpool

Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:30 , George Flood

54 mins: Replays show Gakpo actually touched it on to the chest of Jones, with the ball then bouncing off the bar.

Liverpool are asking serious questions of this Wolves defence now as Salah and Frimpong cause real trouble inside the box.

Good intervention by Santiago Bueno and another woeful corner is cleared ahead of the front post.

Wolves 0-0 Liverpool

Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:26 , George Flood

51 mins: How has that not gone in?!

Salah’s corner is flicked on by Ekitike and Jones looks to chest it on to the crossbar from point-blank range, but it’s actually hooked against the woodwork by Gakpo.

The rebound then somehow doesn’t fall for Kerkez.

A massive reprieve for Wolves.

Wolves 0-0 Liverpool

Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:24 , George Flood

49 mins: More tempo and intent from Liverpool already in the opening exchanges of this second half as Jones sees a hopeful strike blocked and Frimpong’s cross then clatters into Krejci.

Wolves 0-0 Liverpool

“Get Rio” is currently trending on X as so many Liverpool fans call for the swift introduction of Ngumoha...

Jones replacing Gravenberch for Liverpool

Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:19 , George Flood

There is a half-time change being made by Slot, but it’s not Ngumoha.

Gravenberch - who made a couple of fouls on a yellow card - makes way for Curtis Jones in midfield.

Back underway. The second half simply has to be an improvement, doesn’t it?

Liverpool fans want to see Ngumoha

Fair to say that Liverpool fans are not happy with that extremely lethargic first-half display at Molineux...

Wolves 0-0 Liverpool

Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:06 , George Flood

Half-time

The less said about that first 45 minutes the better.

A pretty dreadful half of football that brought no clear-cut chances at all.

Liverpool have been well on top as you might expect, but with nothing to show for it.

Slot will be demanding a huge improvement after the interval.

Wolves 0-0 Liverpool

Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:01 , George Flood

45 mins: Jose Sa with an uncertain punch under pressure from Ekitike, but Wolves wind up with a free-kick rather than having to defend another late first-half corner.

Two minutes of added time have been signalled.

Wolves 0-0 Liverpool

Tuesday 3 March 2026 21:00 , George Flood

43 mins: Rinse and repeat for Liverpool as another woeful corner delivery from Szoboszlai is headed away by Armstrong.

It was Gakpo who again won it off Tchatchoua.

Wolves 0-0 Liverpool

Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:58 , George Flood

41 mins: Gakpo looks to inject some much-needed pace and tempo into what has been a largely stodgy Liverpool showing so far.

He earns a corner that is easily headed clear by Armstrong.

Dreadful delivery from Szoboszlai that didn’t even reach the front post.

That just about sums up this opening half.

Wolves 0-0 Liverpool

Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:56 , George Flood

38 mins: Andre kicks Frimpong and is also lucky not to be cautioned.

Referee Thomas Bramall has been very lenient at times in this first half.

Wolves 0-0 Liverpool

Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:51 , George Flood

34 mins: Little bits and pieces of bright play from both teams to get them into the respective boxes, where it’s repeatedly breaking down.

Wolves 0-0 Liverpool

Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:49 , George Flood

32 mins: The television camera pans to Led Zeppelin frontman and big Wolves fan Robert Plant in the Molineux crowd.

He won’t have a “Whole Lotta Love” for this tepid first half.

I’ll get my coat...

Wolves 0-0 Liverpool

Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:47 , George Flood

30 mins: Salah is stopped in his tracks inside the box before Wolves look to break again, but a disappointing pass from Joao Gomes fails to pick out namesake Angel.

Ekitike gives away a foul as he tries to connect with a cross into the box from the Liverpool left.

Wolves 0-0 Liverpool

Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:45 , George Flood

28 mins: Liverpool force another corner after Angel Gomes’ block on Ekitike, with Salah’s deep delivery to the back post then seen away by Moller Wolfe after a bit of a flap by Jose Sa.

Wolves 0-0 Liverpool

Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:43 , George Flood

26 mins: Liverpool are beginning to ratchet up the pressure and intensity now, but Kerkez’s dangerous low cross from the left is repelled inside the Wolves box.

A very subdued atmosphere around Molineux.

It hasn’t been a classic so far.

Wolves 0-0 Liverpool

Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:40 , George Flood

23 mins: Mac Allister should really join his Liverpool midfield partner in the book after a poor challenge on Angel Gomes that leaves the latter down and in need of treatment.

Not quite sure what the referee was watching there.

Wolves 0-0 Liverpool

Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:40 , George Flood

21 mins: Gravenberch takes out Joao Gomes and receives the first yellow card of the evening.

Slot is furious about that.

Wolves 0-0 Liverpool

Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:36 , George Flood

18 mins: Applause all around Molineux on 18 minutes to remember the late Diogo Jota, who was 18 when he first started playing for Wolves.

A touching moment.

Wolves 0-0 Liverpool

Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:31 , George Flood

15 mins: Liverpool’s turn to counter now after a superb run from Ekitike, but the attack ends with Frimpong firing high into the stands.

Brilliant from Ekitike.

Wolves 0-0 Liverpool

Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:29 , George Flood

12 mins: Joao Gomes plays a wonderful pass with the outside of his boot into the path of the busy Tchatchoua, whose mishit cross is sliced straight behind for an Alisson goal kick.

That ball from Gomes deserved so much better and a potentially good opportunity for Wolves is lost.

Wolves 0-0 Liverpool

Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:26 , George Flood

10 mins: Now Liverpool pour forward again and a sliding Doherty guides Kerkez’s delivery behind for a corner.

Tchatchoua rises to head clear.

Wolves 0-0 Liverpool

Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:25 , George Flood

8 mins: A good tempo to this game early on as Gakpo fires straight at Jose Sa.

Here come Wolves again on the counter through Tchatchoua, whose cross from the right is diverted behind by Kerkez for a corner that is glanced off the head of Armstrong and hits Mac Allister.

Liverpool scramble clear.

Wolves 0-0 Liverpool

Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:23 , George Flood

5 mins: Liverpool are monopolising possession early on at Molineux, as you might expect.

Salah runs off Moller Wolfe to connect with a sweeping long pass from Van Dijk into the Wolves box, but he’s quickly dealt with by a combination of Santiago Bueno and Krejci.

Salah hits the deck, but there’s no suggestion of a penalty. Alert defending from the Wolves centre-backs.

Wolves 0-0 Liverpool

Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:19 , George Flood

3 mins: Wolves look again to exploit the pace of Cameroon full-back Tchatchoua down that right-hand side, but Alisson intervenes.

Liverpool will have to be wary about their threat on the counter-attack tonight.

Wolves 0-0 Liverpool

Tuesday 3 March 2026 20:17 , George Flood

1 min: A lively start in the west Midlands as Liverpool go straight on the offensive and Wolves then break at pace down the right through Tchatchoua, whose looping cross is not properly cleared by Frimpong and bounces wide off Moller Wolfe.

Other Wolves fans are decidedly less happy with the team Rob Edwards has picked, with Matt Doherty seemingly operating at centre-back tonight on his 500th club appearance.

Liverpool fans urge fast start

Tuesday 3 March 2026 19:44 , George Flood

Plenty of Liverpool fans on social media are imploring their side to go for the jugular right from the outset at Molineux and not allow Wolves to sit back on the defensive all night.

They were 2-0 up before the 25-minute mark against West Ham at Anfield on Saturday.

Frimpong starts in only Liverpool change

Tuesday 3 March 2026 19:28 , George Flood

Just the one change from Arne Slot to the Liverpool team that thrashed West Ham 5-2 at Anfield on Saturday.

It’s at right-back, where Jeremie Frimpong gets the nod over Joe Gomez after returning from a month out with a groin injury as a late substitute at the weekend.

Otherwise it’s the same side, with no Florian Wirtz still as expected.

There is one change on the bench, where third-string goalkeeper Freddie Woodman makes way for teenage midfielder Kieran Morrison.

Edwards: Beating Aston Villa a 'big moment' for Wolves

Tuesday 3 March 2026 19:04 , George Flood

No one at Wolves is getting carried away with Friday night’s 2-0 win over local rivals Aston Villa, a shock second Premier League victory of the season secured by second-half goals from Joao Gomes and Rodrigo Gomes that moved them on to 13 points - two more than the infamous Derby team of 2007/08.

They are still firmly rooted to the foot of the table and 14 points adrift of safety with nine matches to go having played a game more than their rivals, with relegation and a first season back in the Championship since 2017/18 inevitable.

However, that result against Villa will give them much-needed confidence as they look to at least build some late-season momentum as they aim to return to the top-flight as quickly as possible.

“We've not had that long here yet, three and a bit months, but we've not had loads to shout about,” manager Rob Edwards said on Monday.

“We've had some good performances and a few results this calendar year, but that was a big moment, I felt for the whole club, to be honest.

“It was a really nice moment to share with the supporters, in a game that really mattered to them.

“It's all right me banging on about the lads performing, competing and giving everything. But we're in a business where, really, people only look if you're getting the results.

“So, when you do get a performance like that and then a win against the team like that, it maybe amplifies a little bit of what I'm saying, and people perhaps will believe it a little bit more.”

Liverpool signing Jeremy Jacquet set for surgery

Tuesday 3 March 2026 18:49 , George Flood

Liverpool signing Jeremy Jacquet is set to undergo surgery that may well prove season-ending, it has been confirmed.

The Reds beat the likes of Chelsea to a £60m deal for the highly-rated young French defender in January, with his arrival at Anfield set for the summer.

However, there have been concerns over his readiness to hit the ground running on Merseyside after Jacquet dislocated his shoulder in a Ligue 1 game against Lens just days after signing for Liverpool.

The 20-year-old has not played since and will now undergo an operation that is said to have a recovery time of around two-and-a-half months.

Jacquet seems very likely to have played his last game for Rennes as a result.

Memories of Diogo Jota as Wolves host Liverpool

Tuesday 3 March 2026 18:35 , George Flood

A look at the pre-match scene in and around Molineux, where Wolves are hunting back-to-back wins for the first time this season against a Liverpool side who have won 17 of the last 18 Premier League meetings between these two clubs and mostly enjoyed their travels of late.

The only notable exception to that one-sided run in this fixture came when a relegation-fighting Wolves team under Julen Lopetegui stunned Jurgen Klopp’s side 3-0 at Molineux back in October 2023 after going 2-0 up inside just 12 minutes.

Wolves pushed Liverpool hard again at Anfield after Christmas earlier this season, eventually going down 2-1 to stay winless after Santiago Bueno’s goal after the break was not enough to cancel out quick-fire first-half efforts from Ryan Gravenberch and Florian Wirtz, who scored his first in the Premier League that day.

That was an emotional afternoon on Merseyside as Diogo Jota’s former clubs both paid heartfelt tribute to the late forward, whose sons were mascots.

He won’t be far from everyone’s thoughts again tonight.

Slot delivers set-piece verdict: My football heart doesn't like it

Tuesday 3 March 2026 18:19 , George Flood

Set-pieces have become a major talking point and massively divisive topic in the Premier League this season, with Arsenal becoming so proficient at them to underpin their title charge.

Liverpool themselves scored from three first-half corners against West Ham on Saturday, only the second team ever to achieve that feat in the Premier League.

Arne Slot admitted at his pre-Wolves press conference yesterday that he did not enjoy this era of set-play reliance, in what many construed as a bit of a dig at Arsenal, though accepted the new direction in the English top-flight.

"First of all you have to accept it. I think it is mainly here in the Premier League; if I watch other leagues I don't think there is so much emphasis on set-pieces," he said.

(Liverpool FC via Getty Images)

"It's funny for me if I watch Eredivisie games I see goals being disallowed or fouls on goalkeepers being given and I am like, 'wow, that's a big difference'.

“Here you can almost hit a goalkeeper in his face the referee will say just go on.

"Do I like it? My football heart doesn't like it. Now most of the games I see in the Premier League are not, for me, a joy to watch.

"But it is always interesting because it is so competitive and that's what makes this league great because there is so much competitiveness - everyone can win against everyone.

"Not only because of set-pieces but also because teams have become so much stronger.

“Three or four years ago when top clubs faced 18th, 17th, 16th, 15th it could have been four or five-goal difference but that is not the situation any more.

"Maybe in five or 10 years' time things will change again but I wouldn't be surprised if you went to an under-16s game somewhere, Sunday League football, if you see teams completely being focused on set-pieces. That's the new reality."

Wolves vs Liverpool prediction

Tuesday 3 March 2026 18:06 , George Flood

Despite their morale-boosting Friday night victory over local rivals Aston Villa, it seems a very tricky proposition indeed for Wolves to defeat a free-scoring Liverpool side.

Hugo Ekitike notched a goal and two assists against West Ham last time out, while Cody Gakpo broke his duck at Anfield.

Despite Arne Slot’s bemoaning of an over-reliance on set-plays this term, Liverpool have shown an impressive improvement at scoring from dead-ball scenarios, displaying their newfound prowess from corners by scoring from three set-pieces against West Ham.

With the Reds back in full flow, it will be very difficult for Wolves to stop them.

Liverpool team news

Tuesday 3 March 2026 18:03 , George Flood

The headline Liverpool team news relates to Florian Wirtz, who looks likely to miss both games against Wolves this week.

The Reds’ £116million summer signing is currently nursing a back injury suffered ahead of the recent 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest that also ruled him out of Saturday’s 5-2 drubbing of West Ham.

Liverpool will be hoping he can return against Galatasaray next week.

Jeremie Frimpong came off the bench late on at the weekend for his first appearance in a month following five games out with a groin injury sustained on Champions League duty against Qarabag.

He could be pushing to replace Joe Gomez at right-back from the off tonight, but Alexander Isak, Conor Bradley, Wataru Endo and Giovanni Leoni all remain sidelined along with Wirtz.

Wolves team news

Tuesday 3 March 2026 17:55 , George Flood

In a rare occurrence for any team at this busy period of the season, never mind one in such relegation peril, Wolves boss Rob Edwards actually has the luxury of a fully-fit squad to choose from tonight.

Forward Hwang Hee-chan has recovered from a calf strain suffered in the 3-1 home defeat by Chelsea last month that has seen him miss the last five matches across all competitions, while versatile defender Ladislav Krejci is also back in contention having served a one-match suspension against Aston Villa in the aftermath of his sending off in the 1-0 loss at Crystal Palace.

Wolves vs Liverpool live

Tuesday 3 March 2026 17:46 , George Flood

Good evening and welcome to Standard Sport's live coverage of Wolves vs Liverpool in the Premier League.

Tonight sees the first of two trips to Molineux in the span of just four days for Arne Slot's resurgent Reds, who would go fourth - for 24 hours at least - with a fifth straight victory across all competitions, before returning back to the same venue on Friday with a place in the FA Cup quarter-finals on the line.

But Wolves have rallied themselves for high-profile games of late, denting Arsenal's title bid with a dramatic late fightback and also stunning rivals Aston Villa last time out to notch only a second top-flight win of the season to ensure they will not replace the 2007/08 Derby team as the worst in Premier League history.

Relegation to the Championship remains inevitable for Rob Edwards' side, but they are at least now succeeding in restoring some pride after what has been a truly abysmal campaign otherwise.

Kick-off tonight is at the slightly later time of 8:15pm GMT, so stay with us for match build-up, breaking team news and live game updates.
