Liverpool have reportedly been dealt a blow in their apparent pursuit of Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves.
The Reds continue to be linked with a host of potential new midfielders as the January transfer window rolls on. Cody Gakpo remains the club’s only new signing so far this month.
Results in the Premier League have been inconsistent, which has left Liverpool in ninth place in the table. This form has led to increased calls from sections of supporters and pundits to bring in reinforcements.

One player to be linked with a move to Anfield is Neves. The Wolves midfielder has previously been credited as a possible target for Liverpool in certain reports.
However, according to a fresh report from Football Insider, the chances of a deal happening this month are slim. The article states that Wolves have told Liverpool they will not sanction an exit for Neves in January.
It has been claimed that Wolves want to keep Neves at the club until the end of the season. The reasons for this, the article says, is because the Molineux outfit want to keep the midfielder to help their chances of avoiding relegation.
One hope for Liverpool is that the article says Wolves could be open to selling Neves in the summer. The 25-year-old’s current deal runs out in 2024, and his value is likely to decrease by the time the end of the season comes around.
