Wolves sweat on fitness of key player ahead of Leeds United clash

Wolverhampton Wanderers will assess Hwang Hee-chan this week ahead of their game against Leeds United. The forward limped off after 15 minutes in the 1-0 win over Everton.

The South Korean international has been impressive since joining from RB Leipzig on loan last summer, scoring five goals in 22 appearances. In January, Wolves also announced that they had activated a clause in his contract to extend his stay in July for another four years.

However, the 26-year-old could now be out for a sustained amount of time after being replaced by Daniel Podence in the opening stages at Goodison Park. Lage provided an assessment on his condition in his post-match press conference.

"I really don’t know," he admitted. "It was maybe a little punch and he tried to (continue). But they were ready. Yesterday I talked with both Hwang and Daniel. I knew it would be very hard on the left side so I wanted one to start and the other to finish the job.

"In my mind Hwang was supposed to play 45 or 60 minutes, but he played 20. Daniel came inside, but the strategy of both was the same."

Hwang joined a growing number of Wolves stars on the treatment table after Pedro Neto missed the game wit a minor foot injury. Right wing-backs Nelson Semedo and Ki-Jana Hoever are currently sidelined with hamstring problems.

Asked for an update on Dutchman Hoever, Lage said: "He’s recovering. I don’t know how long, but he’s recovering and outside working, so maybe he needs a couple more weeks."
