A popular low-cost airline is scrapping most of its flights from Cardiff Airport for more than six months - effectively cancelling the majority of journeys that have been booked between September and April. Wizz Air have made the announcement that it will significantly reduce its flight schedule from September 19 due to what it has called “macro-economic pressures”.
The Hungarian airline will temporarily stop services to popular holiday destinations across Europe and further afield, with around 40 staff based at Cardiff being offered employment at other UK airports until next April. The airline is expected to get in contact with all passengers who have been affected by this change so that they can have their travel options outlined to them. While the news affects most flights due to take off from Cardiff Aiport, the site in Rhoose will see flights travel to two destinations - Milan and Bucharest - over the winter season.
