There weren’t a whole lot of lofty expectations for the Washington Wizards this season. Their roster has been devoid of any major talent for a couple of years now, and were coming off the worst season in the 63-year history of the franchise. But they’re not only on pace to be worse than last year’s team, but to be one of the worst teams in NBA history when all is said and done.
Wizards On Pace To Be A Historically Bad NBA Team
Through the first 18 games of the 2024-25 season, the Wizards are sitting with a record of 2-16. Those two victories came in a home-and-home miniseries with the Atlanta Hawks back in late October, and represent the only two wins of the season. After their 2-2 start, they have now dropped 14 straight, which covered their entire schedule for the month of November.
And while they are the 16th team in NBA history to finish a month winless, they are the first to do it twice in the same calendar year (0-12 last February). Their current winning percentage of .111 puts them on a pace of just slightly better than 9 wins and 73 losses, which would be tied for the worst finish in an 82 game season ever.

It isn’t just the win/loss columns that are ugly for the Wizards. They currently have what is the worst point differential in the league at -15 points per game, as they have the 6th-worst offense to go along with the 2nd-worst defense. If they were to stay on the same pace throughout the 82 games, they would finish with the 2nd-worst average point differential in a season in NBA history, as the 1992–93 Mavericks had a mark of -15.2. Dallas finished with a record of 11-71 that year, tied for the 5th lowest winning percentage ever.
The team is “led” by Jordan Poole and Kyle Kuzma, who combine to average 36.6 points per game. Rookie second overall pick Alexandre Sarr averages 10.6 in nearly 27 minutes per game.
Things won’t get any easier as the calendar turns over to December. They’ll start the month by playing against the top team in the Eastern Conference when they visit the Cavaliers, and will take on the likes of the Mavericks, Nuggets, and Grizzlies between now and Sunday.
