Education Secretary Linda McMahon said Tuesday that large-scale staffing cuts at her department are a step toward ending its operations, as ordered by President Donald Trump.
“His directive to me, clearly, is to shut down the Department of Education, which we know we’ll have to work with Congress to get that accomplished. But what we did today was to take the first step of eliminating what I think is bureaucratic bloat,” McMahon said on “The Ingraham Angle” on Fox News.
The announced reduction in force would cut nearly 50 percent of employees, according to a statement from the department.
