With an 'Overwhelmingly Positive' rating on Steam, Risk of Rain 2 fans finally get the DLC they deserve after the first Gearbox-led effort put the roguelike "in a really bad place"

Gearbox purchased Risk of Rain back in 2022, after the series cemented itself as one of the best roguelikes on the market. However, the first major update to the series following the purchase by the Borderlands developer left more than a little to be desired. Seekers of the Storm was a disaster for both Gearbox and the series, but the newly released DLC, Alloyed Collective, has redeemed the games image.

Seekers of the Storm had just a 34% positive rating on Steam on release, and Risk of Rain brand lead Preston Weiler admitted that "PC is in a really bad place" following the DLC's release. Bugs weren't the only problem with the launch as pricing errors were rampant, with PC players being overcharged for the expansion, and PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players were asked to buy the game again for the free next-gen update.

Meanwhile, Steam reviews for Risk of Rain 2's Alloyed Collective DLC that launched on November 18 are 'Overwhelmingly Positive', and players are raving about the latest addition in the review sections. One user writes, "it is much, much more polished and optimized than Seekers of the Storm at launch (I've yet to see a single bug)," and another says, "they did the impossible and actually fully redeemed themselves with this one."

It seems that everyone is not only enjoying the update, but they view it in an even more positive light given the last DLC. One person says, "I literally cried tears of joy playing this. Take it from someone who went through the trenches with SOTS, this is AMAZING. Simply AMAZING," and another adds, "This is shockingly, unbelievably good and an insane increase in quality from last year's SOTS. The new drones are awesome, the new characters are so much fun and fit right in with the rest of the cast, the new items are interesting."

Risk of Rain 2, now under Borderlands house Gearbox, vows to take "full responsibility" for AI art it calls a "mistake" – "We are sending the designer to the Void Fields as punishment"
