President Joe Biden tested positive for COVID-19, news that was announced by the White House on Thursday. Here’s how former President Donald Trump reacted to the news.
What Happened: The White House reported Thursday that Biden, who is fully vaccinated and has received two booster shots, tested positive for COVID-19.
Benzinga reported Thursday that Biden had started taking Pfizer Inc’s (NYSE:PFE) Paxlovid oral antiviral pill. The president has “very mild symptoms,” according to the White House.
Former President Donald Trump took to Truth Social, a social media platform owned by Trump Media & Technology Group, to share his well wishes for Biden.
“I hope Sleepy Joe is able to bounce back quickly, much as I was,” Trump said.
The former President referred to COVID-19 as “the China virus” in his post and also took a dig at the president.
“Joe Biden, who many have said is our worst President, has come down with a case of the China virus, despite being vaccinated.”
While Trump has clashed with Biden, the candidate who beat him in the 2020 Presidential Election, the former president hopes the current president recovers and remains able to serve as the country’s leader.
“Joe, I wish you a speedy recovery, even though you are taking America in the wrong direction. No one wants Kamala!” Trump said referencing Vice President Kamala Harris.

Why It’s Important: Trump tested positive for COVID-19 in October 2020, during his time served as the 45th president of the U.S.
Trump praised his own recovery process in his post.
“Doctors described my fight against the China virus as Herculean, and not meaning the woke Disney Hercules but rather the Kevin Sorbo one. The Lou Ferrigno one as well,” Trump said.
Trump’s post on Truth Social happened while the parent company Trump Media & Technology Group is working to complete a SPAC merger with Digital World Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:DWAC).
The post on Truth Social comes as Trump remains banned on the social media platform Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR). Many people shared the post from Trump's Truth Social page on Twitter Thursday while also discussing the difference in the two presidents getting COVID-19, the media reaction and how they worked during their time away.
Trump and Biden are both expected to announce their intentions to run for president in the 2024 election with neither officially declaring their entry in the race. Reports say an announcement could come from Trump at any time.
DWAC Price Action: Digital World Acquisition shares are down 5.40% to $30.82 on Friday at publication. Shares have traded between $9.84 and $175 over the past 52 weeks.
The SPAC was one of the top-performing new stocks in 2021 and remains up more than 220% even after a 38% year-to-date drop in 2022.
