A Wishaw pub’s staff and regulars were delighted to hand over a bumper cheque to a cancer charity this week.
The Cherry Tree in Netherton was packed to the rafters last month to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK.
Auction prizes on the night included a Scotland top signed by Arsenal star Kieran Tierney, a bottle of whisky worth almost £1000, a Ferrari signed shirt, a classic car ride, a signed Motherwell FC top and tickets to Fir Park, plus a signed Celtic match ball.
A huge raffle also contributed to a whopping £5012 total which was handed over to the charity this week.
A cheque for £250 wasalso handed over on the night to Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust.
Cherry Tree proprietor Helen Paterson said: “It was a fabulous night. We thought if we could raise one or two thousand we would be doing well so to get more than double that is outstanding.
“Local businesses and our customers were extremely generous.
“Our top prizes in the auction got us over £1000 and we had so many raffle prizes. It took forever!”
The idea for the charity night came after one of the pub’s regulars, Yvonne Jeffrey, brought in a sponsor sheet to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
The money-spinning event certainly brought a smile to Yvonne’s face.
Helen added: “She was delighted.
“There were four of us counting the money, including her, so she was pleased that we will be able to hand over such a big cheque.
“It’s a cause very close to her heart so I’m sure it was a special night for her.”
