A support worker has been given a warning which will be kept on their record for 24 months after failing to feed a patient and lying to a colleague about the incident.
Wilson Kelly was employed by a care at home service and worked in Wishaw and has been given a two year warning on their registration as a professional.
The SSSC decided that while on shift, Wilson Kelly, on or around the date of July 31 2021 acted ‘dishonestly’ whilst attempting to conceal that they had not carried out their duties.

Wilson Kelly failed to feed the patient a piece of quiche for lunch and hid the intended food for the patient in the bin. This then led to the care worker recording on the planner that the patient had been fed.
Wilson Kelly then told their colleague they had fed the person that was in their care. This was later found out to not be true.
The report published on the SSSC website refers to the patient as ‘AA’ and says: “Your fitness to practise is impaired because your behaviour was serious. You failed to provide AA with a meal and then took steps to conceal your behaviour.
"Your behaviour was neglectful and falls well below the standards of conduct expected of you as a social service worker. Service users have the right to expect that they will be protected from harm by social service workers. You failed in your duty of care and placed AA at an unnecessary risk of harm.
“By taking steps to conceal your behaviour you have breached the trust and confidence placed on you by AA, your employer and members of the public. You have demonstrated a lack of honesty and integrity. You have failed to ensure that AA’s wellbeing and welfare was met. As a social service worker you are expected to be open and honest at all times and by acting dishonestly you have brought into question your suitability to work in social services.”
“You have denied any wrongdoing. You told your colleague ZZ that you had provided AA with his lunch. AA is a vulnerable service user. AA relies on social service workers to ensure that the care they are providing protects him from harm. AA would not have been able to communicate that him had not been provided with a meal or that he was hungry. If you were to repeat this behaviour, then vulnerable service users would be placed at a serious risk of becoming malnourished.”
The date of effect of the warning on Wilson Kelly’s record comes in effect from today, March 10 2023.
