Wisconsin women with dense breast tissue or a higher risk of breast cancer will have broader insurance coverage for extra screening next year, but they should confirm that their own plan is included before scheduling an MRI. Gail's Law requires covered health plans to pay for medically necessary supplemental screenings, such as breast MRI and ultrasound, when a woman has dense breasts or an increased risk of breast cancer, according to the Cap Times.
The coverage expansion took effect for Medicaid members on July 1. For state-regulated private plans, the requirements apply to policy or plan years beginning on Jan. 1, 2027, according to an Office of the Commissioner of Insurance bulletin. Most plans must comply starting in January 2027, WBAY reported.
