Wirral Council given up to £1m to help families in borough

Wirral Council has secured up to £1m to improve family support services in the borough.

Wirral is one of just 12 areas to have been given the money under the government’s Family Hubs Transformation Fund. The funding will be used to support the authority with the costs of moving to a ‘family hubs model’.

This will direct those in need to early help, public health, and wider support services, something which is crucial to improving access, as well as connections between families and professionals capable of helping them. Simone White, Wirral Council’s director of children’s services, said: “This is fantastic news.

“There were 84 different local authorities bidding to be one of the twelve so it is a real positive we have been chosen. Our aim is always to help families in Wirral achieve the best outcomes they possibly can and this will help them even more to be able to access the help they need when they need it.”

The new money is aimed at making key improvements, such as making services more accessible through clearly branded and communicated hub buildings and virtual offers. It is hoped the money will make family services better connected by getting the private, public and voluntary sectors to work together to deliver more for those who need their support.

The family hubs model will also look to improve family relationships which may be the cause of underlying issues which then require more support.
