Wirral Council cancels meetings over death of Queen Elizabeth II

All Wirral Council meetings except one over the next two weeks have been cancelled or postponed during the national mourning period following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Four of the council's meetings have been cancelled over the next three weeks and a further five have been postponed.

These included the first meetings for the Housing, Environment, Health and Social Care, and Education committees since the summer recess.

A licensing panel meeting on Friday September 16 is still going ahead as it is dealing with active licence reviews.

A spokesperson for Wirral Council said: “In consultation with group leaders of Wirral Council it has been agreed that as a mark of respect to the passing of the Queen the committee meetings which had been due to be held during the period of national mourning will not now be held."

“Discussions will take place between the Chairs and Group Spokespersons and the respective Directors for consideration of what decisions may need to be made under decision notices, what can be held over until the next formal committee meetings, or whether to call a meeting before the next scheduled meetings in October, if absolutely necessary.”

Many tributes have been made to the late Monarch including her last visit to Wirral where she greeted crowds and the then newly reopened Floral Pavilion Theatre in New Brighton.
