Wirral bus services could be reduced from September

Over a dozen changes to bus services have been proposed as part of a wider overhaul of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority's bus network.

The changes are due to come into place on Sunday, September 4, though must first pass another stage of review that will end at the beginning of August. If all the plans are greenlighted over a dozen bus services and timetables in the area will be affected, with many having their frequency reduced.

One service that, the 216/217 service that supplies the Arrowe Park hospital could see buses moving from a half-hourly time table to an hourly one. However, some services would see an improved frequency, such as the 38/38A service that will see the service return to the more regular timetable it ran before the pandemic.

The changes have been proposed to mitigate a loss of funding from central government which has previously been supporting the city region's bus services.

There have been changes proposed for the following bus services:

106/107 - Liscard Circular (via New Brighton and Wallasey Village)

The route could be amended to serve Mount Road and to provide links to key areas and connections on the local bus network. No frequency changes have been proposed.

80/81/82 - West Kirby Circulars

The 81 (via Newton, Greasby, Arrowe PArk Hospital, could be re-rerouted to pass via Greendale Road. The 80/81/82 bus services could see further changes to accomodate shift patterns at Arrowe Park Hospital.

No frequency changes have been proposed.

16/17 - Eastham Rake to Moreton Cross

The route of the 16/17 could be changed to enter the grounds of the Arrowe Park Hospital. No frequency changes have been proposed.

38/38A - West Kirby to New Ferry/ Bromborough/ Mill Park/ Eastham Ferry

The frequency of the 38/38A service is due to return to pre-pandemic levels (every 30 minutes for each bus) for the Monday to Saturday services. The Sunday service will not see any changes.

41/42 - Mill Park to Woodchurch (via Arrowe Park Hospital)

The 41/42 service could be extended from its previous destination (Woodchurch) to include Arrowe Park Hospital. The proposed changes would also see the services operate in both directions through Woodchurch Estate. The frequency of the service will not see any changes.

216/217 - Woodchurch to Woodside (via Arrowe Park Hospital)

The frequency of the early morning journeys of the 216/217 will be reduced to every 60 minutes for either service, if changes go ahead.

410 - New Brighton to Clatterbridge Hospital

The frequency of the 410 could be reduced to an hourly frequency from 10pm each day, Monday to Sunday.

418 - New Ferry to Birkenhead

The current 40 minute timetable of the 418 could be reduced to an hourly frequency from Monday to Saturday.

432/433 - New Brighton to Liverpool

A evening frequency reduction has been proposed for the 432/422 service. This would see the current 20 minute timetable of both services reduced to a 40 minute timetable from 6.30pm, and then to an hourly timetable from 10pm onwards.

Evening 433 services could be introduced to mitigate the timetable reduction, meaning that a bus (either the 432 or the 433) would be traveling the route every 20 minutes on common sections.

437 - West Kirby to Liverpool

The current 10 minute timetable (or 15 minute on Sundays) could see its frequency reduced to every 30 minutes from 10pm each night.

471/472 - Liverpool to Heswall

The proposed changes would see the current 30 minute timetable of the 471/472 improved to the 20 minute timetable that ran pre-pandemic. The combined service would also be running every 10 minutes on common sections of road.

492/495 - Birkenhead to Noctorum Circulars

The current 30 minute timetable of the 492/495 would see a reduction to a 40 minute timetable, Monday to Saturday if proposals are accepted. The Sunday service would not see any frequency changes.
