Wirral bar could face licence threat as music causes noise fears

A West Kirby bar could have its licence revoked over claims it is causing a nuisance to its neighbours.

Wirral Council’s licensing authority said it has received complaints from residents regarding noise coming from Wild Inn on Banks Road in West Kirby. Given the noise caused by music from the premises, the council’s environmental health team has asked the three-councillor Licensing Panel to review the bar’s licence.

The panel, which will meet publicly on Wednesday, June 8, at 10am at Wallasey Town Hall, has lots of things it can do to address the problem. The panel could change the conditions of the licence or exclude a "licensable activity" such as live music or alcohol from Wild Inn’s licence.

It could also remove the designated premises supervisor, suspend the licence for up to three months or even revoke it altogether, although such a severe measure is rare.

It must also be said that the panel could choose to take no action at all if the three councillors believe nothing is needed to deal with the noise issue. Six residents have written to Wirral Council to support the review.

As well as this, Cllr Alison Wright, a Conservative who represents the Hoylake and Meols ward which incorporates parts of West Kirby, also wrote to the panel to say she supports the review of Wild Inn’s licence. The premises is currently allowed to serve alcohol between 10am and midnight every day of the week.

Wild Inn also has a licence to play live music, recorded music or host dance performances from 10am until 11.30pm and serve late night refreshments between 11pm and 12.30am. The bar is allowed to open between 10am and 12.30am every day.

At next Tuesday’s meeting, panel members will choose which steps, if any, are needed to deal with reported noise problems.
