Winterwatch fans in stitches over Michaela Strachan and Chris Packham's cheeky innuendo

Winterwatch viewers were left in stitches after host Michaela Strachan and Chris Packham made some rude innuendoes as the show made its return.

The pair made a series of funny jokes that seemed to be a hit with fans of the programme.

The hosts shared a clip from a river cam which showed a tawny owl trying to 'snatch' a brown rat from the side of a bank.

Chris said: "Nothing going on at the moment but just a few nights ago we spotted a brown rat on the bank.

"But look swooping low over it, that shadow, the rat flinches on the bank and the ominous shadow of a tawny owl.

"The tawny owl thought about having a snatch at the rat but then decided not to."

Michaela then made her own comment: "I think he's a spunky little fellow that rat...he's going to avoid predation."

Viewers found the comments funny, but the innuendoes didn't stop there.

Michaela went on to say another funny line which fans couldn't believe.

She said they'd placed cameras on beavers during Springwatch, but they didn't end up seeing anything.

The 55 year old went on, that during Autumnwatch they managed to get some footage of them.

She said: "We are sticking with it and hoping to get more of our beavers during Winterwatch. There's never a beaver around when you want one, is there?"

Viewers quickly went to Twitter to talk about the hilarious remark.

One person said: "Is it rude word insertion on #Winterwatch? Snatch, Spunky and Beaver," as another added: "There is always a lack of beavers when you want it."

A third viewer took to Twitter to say: "From a spunky little chap to beavers, what more could you ask for. #Winterwatch"

Another hilariously tweeted: "There's never a beaver around when you want one' I feel ya. #Winterwatch"

The newest series of Winterwatch kicked off on Tuesday night, but unfortunately, Gillian Burke was missing.

However, Michaela was back hosting the programme after missing the series in January back in 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

She also had to miss Springwatch in 2020 for the same reason.

The show returned on Tuesday night (BBC)

Speaking to Zoe Ball on her BBC Radio 2 show, Michaela said: "Obviously we have got the live cameras on. Really excited this year because we're in Norfolk, Megan's with us this year, she's in Northern Ireland.

"Unfortunately Gillian had other commitments for Winterwatch. IoIo is in the Isle of Mull and we have got live cameras in all three places."

Michaela will be based at Wild Ken Hill in Norfolk this series.

She added: "I am looking out the window now and it's blue sky.

"And we're going out filming as soon as we've finished the interview with you. We are going out filming, and what a beautiful day. I mean it's crisp and it's cold but it's gorgeous and there is so much wildlife here."
