Winter Olympics 2022: Curling wins, snow disruption, latest Team GB news; results and medal table

Great Britain saw off China 7-6 in the men’s curling competition at the National Aquatics Centre in Beijing on Sunday.

Teams play nine matches in the round-robin stage, which continues later on Sunday, with the top four advancing to Thursday’s semi-finals.

In the women’s competition, Canada lost their third game in a row after falling 8-4 to world champions Switzerland, with skip Jennifer Jones stuck in a rut since opening the Olympic campaign with a win.

Back-to-back misses from Jones, gold medallist at Sochi 2014, in a disastrous eighth end swung a tight contest back in favour of the Swiss -- the only team with a perfect record after five games so far.

Reigning champions Sweden beat the United States 10-4 as mistakes from Tabitha Peterson’s side added up and were too much for the Americans to overcome.

Hosts China delighted the home crowd with a 6-5 extra-end win against South Korea, while Britain eventually won 7-2 after a cagey tussle with Denmark, who kept pace until the ninth end but cracked first to concede three points and the match

The women’s freeski slopestyle qualifiers were postponed this morning due to snow.

Steady snow had been falling on the course and organisers had earlier delayed the event by two hours.

A total of 27 skiers were scheduled to participate in the qualifiers on Sunday, including home favourite Eileen Gu, who picked up the Big Air gold medal on Tuesday.

Italian skier Elisa Maria Nakab crashed during a practice run on the course earlier on Sunday and could be seen bleeding from the mouth.

Air temperatures dropped to -15 degrees Celsius at the Genting Snow Park in Zhangjiakou as steady snow fell on the course.

Team GB latest

There is the very real prospect of Team GB returning from the Games empty-handed after Laura Deas finished way off the pace in the women’s skeleton while Brogan Crowley finished 22nd out of 25.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t deliver something better for you,” said Deas.

“The speed that I so desperately want is not there, and there’s nothing I can do about that now.
