‘Winter-like’ weather in HP, 3.5ºC in Keylong

MANALI: Winter-like conditions have returned to upper parts of Himachal Pradesh, as day and night temperatures have dipped sharply after rain and snowfall.

People in Lahaul-Spiti, upper parts of Kinnaur, Chamba, Shimla and Kullu districts are using winter clothes as the night temperature is below 10°C.

Many parts of Himachal on Tuesday witnessed fresh rain and thundershowers, while the high mountains continued to receive snow.

At just 3.5°C, Keylong in Himachal was the coldest in the state, followed by Kalpa in Kinnaur recording 5.8°C. Narkanda and Kufri in Shimla recorded a minimum temperature of 6.7°C and 8.2°C, respectively.

Manali recorded a minimum temperature of 9.2°C. State capital Shimla recorded the lowest temperature of 11°C and it was 17.2°C in Dharamshala.

The weather department has issued a yellow alert for rains, lightning and high-velocity winds in most parts of the state. Most parts of the state received moderate rain on Tuesday.

Dharampur recorded 62mm rain, Bijahi and Rajgarh each recorded 42mm rain. Bharari, Solan, Bharmaur and Bangana recorded 29mm, 26mm, 25mm and 23mm of rain, respectively. Bajaura (21mm), Mehre (17mm), Sundernagar (16mm), Janjehli (15mm), Kufri (13mm), Kasol (12mm), Shimla (11mm) and Bhuntar (10mm) also received rains.

According to the meteorological centre in Shimla, both minimum and maximum temperatures in the state are below normal. It has predicted light rains in the isolated areas of the state in the next 24 hours.
