Winters are peculiarly adverse in northern India due to western disturbances and the snow fall in the Himalayas. Delhi-NCR region is particularly affected due to heavy air pollution with AQI(Air quality Index) often staying above 300 coupled with biomass fuel and crop burning creating an environment conducive to the spread of these viruses. Viral illness related to Flu, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), adeno, rhino ,COVID-19 viruses see a surge during winters causing significant morbidity and mortality. Recently there is a potential rise in Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) cases. High risk groups include school going kids, elderly who prefer morning walks and those with a weak immune systems (Diabetics, cancer, kidney ,heart and lung disease patients).
