
When Jason was released on tag from prison in March this year, having spent three years inside for class-A drug dealing, his third stint in prison, he was determined to make a clean break. The 26-year-old knew that finding a stable place to live and securing a job were the keys to rebuilding his life, but he faced one big obstacle that terrified him. Jason was right to be worried: just over one-third of adult prisoners in the UK reoffend within a year of release, but this rises sharply to 68 per cent when former inmates wind up sleeping rough, according to Ministry of Justice data.
