The recent concession by the government to allow refugees 56 days to move on from their asylum support accommodation will likely receive few headlines, but it is an important victory for common sense, good financial management and basic humanity.
Until now, those receiving refugee status were given 28 days to leave their asylum Home Office supported accommodation. And whilst the provision of a shared room in a hotel with unappetising food provided in plastic containers and an allowance of just £8.86 per week is not something most of us would want to cling onto, for refugees this can be vital to prevent street homelessness and destitution.
