Winston Churchill's quote of the day: 'Personally, I'm always ready to learn, although I do not always like being...' - A witty take on the art of learning

Winston Churchill's quote of the day: Winston Churchill is one of the most easily recognized personalities in modern history. Mostly remembered for the way he led Britain through the toughest periods of the Second World War, Churchill was more than just the wartime prime minister of Britain. He was a statesman, author, historian, painter and one of the best orators of the 20th century. He was born on November 30, 1874, at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire, England. Churchill was born into a noble family but faced many difficulties in achieving his political success. As a young boy, he found education very difficult and later went to the Royal Military College of Sandhurst. Early life for him involved serving in the military and working as a war correspondent; both of these helped to influence his style and voice.

Churchill joined the Parliament in 1900 and had a long period of maneuvering in the British politics. The career path was not a smooth one for him. He took many risky decisions, changed political parties and went through periods of losing political weight. For many years, he was regarded by some of his fellow politicians as unpredictable, overambitious and problematic to deal with. The main historical contribution made by Churchill occurred in the World War II. Churchill became the British Prime Minister in May 1940, when Germany, led by the Nazis, expanded all over Europe. Britain faced the possibility of invasion, and Churchill's speeches helped rally a population living through fear, uncertainty and enormous loss.
