It was a weekend to savour for Broadmeadow Magic goalkeeper Nate Cavaliere.
On Friday afternoon, he was signed at the last minute to sit on the Newcastle Jets bench as back-up shot-stopper to Jack Duncan after the A-League side had been hard hit by COVID.
After initial stumbling blocks, the Jets were able to secure Cavaliere for the night. And what a night it was as Newcastle overcame the odds to inflict a comprehensive and memorable 2-0 win over Sydney at McDonald Jones Stadium.
Cavaliere was back in action for Magic at Magic Park on Sunday as Broadmeadow secured their first points of the NPL NNSW season in a 4-1 win over Cooks Hill. It came after back-to-back 2-1 losses to Newcastle Olympic then Lambton.
**Weston look set to make up for lost time with a string of games looming in quick succession. The Bears have played just one match - a 5-0 win over Cooks Hill - with three of their four games so far washed out.
All postponements from last weekend, including Weston's game with Edgeworth, have been shifted to April 5. Their round-two clash with Jaffas will be on Good Friday (April 15). There are no other games that weekend.
All round-one matches were moved to July 30-31.
**Zone Premier League club Cardiff City produced one of the upsets of the Australia Cup NNSW Southern Conference round three last weekend by beating Northern League One side Thornton 4-2.
Belmont Swansea defeated Newcastle Suns 5-1, South Cardiff beat Nelson Bay FC 2-0 and New Lambton were 21-0 winners over Metford.
NNSW Northern League One kicks off this weekend.
