The winners of the 2023 South West Apprenticeship Awards have been announced at a special event at Ashton Gate Stadium in Bristol.
The ceremony, held at the home of Bristol City FC and the Bristol Bears rugby side on Thursday, July 6, celebrated the best and brightest learners in the region and the companies helping them succeed.
In addition to apprentices and companies within the business communities of Bristol and Bath, this year’s awards were also opened up to high achievers working in Gloucestershire.
The event was hosted by former European, Commonwealth Games and World champion sprinter Iwan Thomas. Winners included individuals and organisations from a wide variety of sectors - from construction to hospitality - who have managed to succeed despite the challenges posed by the tough economic climate.
George Skuse, an apprentice civil engineer at consultancy Mott MacDonald was named Apprentice of the Year in Construction and Property Industries, as well as the overall Apprentice of the Year.
Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust was named Large Employer of the Year (151 employees or more) while Bristol-based construction specialists Shared Apprenticeships won the prize for Small to Medium Employer of the Year.
Weston College was crowned Apprenticeship Training Provider of the Year.
An award was also presented on the night to Nancy Gill, a graduate recruitment adviser at Wessex Water, who was recognised for her work in mentoring apprentices at the Bath-headquartered utilities firm.
