There have been many ‘Giant Killers’ over the years, players who seem to get the best of the New York Giants almost every time they face them.
One of the more recent cases has been Philadelphia Eagles backup running back Boston Scott, who has scored 10 of his 17 career touchdowns against the Giants (9 rushing, 1 receiving).
Scott is a compact, 200-pound back stuffed into a 5-foot-6 frame who has flustered the Giants during his five seasons in Philly. Scott played in both contests versus the Giants this season and scored a touchdown in each game.
Giants first-year defensive coordinator Wink Martindale sloughed off the notion that Scott was a Giant ‘killer.’ The fact is, he can only go by this season.
“If it predates my time here, I can’t answer that,” said Martindale. “He’s a good running back. They’ve got a stable of good running backs. I can’t answer it…just because he scored, I don’t think he’s a Giant killer.”
Maybe he’s got a point. But if you look at Scott’s career statistics, the label fits.
Scott not only has more touchdowns against the Giants than any other team he’s faced, but he also has more rushing yards (414), receptions (22), and receiving yards (222).
It seems like he has more, but that’s only because not only has Scott racked up good numbers against the Giants over time, it’s when he gets the yards and touchdowns. Most of them seem to come at pivotal times in the rivalry.
