I recently covered Winhanced, going in-depth on why I personally prefer using it over Microsoft’s current offerings, which is essentially just the Xbox App in full-screen using the previously named Xbox Fullscreen Experience, now renamed Xbox Mode.
Well, since my initial article, the team behind Winhanced has now released a new update for everyone. It adds several fixes for devices like the Legion Go, alongside a new low-power download mode.
For those unaware, Winhanced is a launcher for Windows that allows you to pull games from several libraries, including Steam, Epic, Xbox, and more, while still providing access to Xbox Game Pass. There’s also the ability to browse your library and install games directly from each storefront.
In the latest version, 0.9.6.5, Winhanced introduces a new low-power download mode. Similar to the Steam Deck, this allows your device to remain on in a lower-powered state while downloading games, with Winhanced recognizing when your screen would normally turn off and instead keeping the device awake using a lower TDP state to help reduce battery drain.
Alongside this new update, the team has also released new icons to give the launcher a cleaner overall design, including custom glass-style icons for your different libraries, quite reminiscent of Xbox's new glass-designed logo or Apple's liquid glass aesthetic.
Winhanced is coming a long way, and version 1.0 is coming at some point in the future. The app is also teasing some awesome features planned for future releases, but for now, you can download the latest version from their website, which can be found here, and join their Discord community here.
I’ve already spent a whole article discussing why I think you should give Winhanced a go, and I do plan on covering more updates in the future as they are released. So, let me know your thoughts on the launcher, whether you’ve already tried it, if this new update is enough to entice you, or perhaps if you use a completely different launcher altogether.
Be sure to let me know in the comments, and be sure to take part in our poll above.
