Win tickets to Blanc de Blanc Encore

FUN: Blanc de Blanc Encore. Picture: Jonathan Carroll

Newcastle audiences are raving about Blanc de Blanc Encore in The Spiegeltent at Civic Park - and for good reason.

It's the ultimate hedonistic night out. Champagne-soaked, hilarious and adults only.

Since it was first launched in 2013 with an Empire circus-cabaret show, The Spiegeltent has become a popular fixture on Newcastle's performing arts calendar.

The sequel to the celebrated 2018 show, Blanc de Blanc, Blanc de Blanc Encore pops the cork on a scintillating, steamy blend of breathtaking live jazz, thrilling circus tricks, side-splitting comedy, astounding acrobatics and risqué humour.

"We created this show at the Sydney Opera House and the idea was to distil the essence of what the original Blanc de Blanc was, but put it on steroids almost," founding director of independent production company Strut & Fret, Scott Maidment, says.

"It's crazier, it's more fun, it has greater skills."

Blanc de Blanc Encore is a fantastical take on vintage Parisian culture and the famous Moulin Rouge.

"It's that timeless European charm and Parisian sophistication," Maidment says.

"I always say the evening is like having a glass of champagne where you start out smooth and sophisticated, and maybe by the end of the night, you've had too many glasses and it's a little bit crazy and raucous."

As for Maho Magic Bar, also showing at Civic Park, it's about "creating an immersive experience for people as if they were on a night out in Tokyo", Broad Encounters Productions director Kristen Siddle says.

"The venue is purpose-built for the show and the outside is a cacophony of lights and neon, just like you'd see walking down one of the great nightlife districts of Tokyo or Osaka.

"Then you step inside and you're immersed in this very sophisticated cocktail bar, but because it's Japanese there's some crazy things that happen during the show as well."

Catch Blanc de Blanc Encore and Maho Magic Bar at Newcastle's Civic Park until May 1. Tickets start from $49 (plus booking fee).
