Wimbledon: Tsitsipas ends Murray's hopes with 5-set win

LONDON: Stefanos Tsitsipas trailed two-time champion Andy Murray by two-sets-to-one in their Wimbledon second-round clash, which was pushed into a second day thanks to the All England Lawn Tennis Club's 11 pm curfew.

That was the only breather the powerful world No. 5 needed as he clinched the fourth set in a tie-break and struck early in the decider to break the hearts of the Centre court fandom. Tsitsipas closed on his third match point with his 17th ace of the match after 4 hours and 40-minutes of action.

The long-haired Greek, 24, came through 7-6 (3), 6-7 (2), 4-6, 7-6 (3), 6-4 against the 36-year-old two-time champion and will take on Serb Laslo Djere in the third round on Saturday.

"Never easy against Andy, everyone loves him here. He has so many years on the Tour, it's incredible how he holds up, two hip surgeries later," Tsitsipas said.

"It was nerve wracking, I had to overcome. I have grown up watching him play on these courts. He was in the top-four for a long time. These four guys - Andy, Novak (Djokovic), Roger (Federer) and Rafa (Nadal) shaped the game. They are the reason I am the player I am today."
