New role: Debbie Jevans will succeed Ian Hewitt as Wimbledon chair in July
(Picture: Getty Images)Wimbledon has named its first ever female chair with Debbie Jevans taking over the post after this year’s Championships.
A former tennis player who had previously reached the fourth round of Wimbledon, she was the director of sport at London 2012 and then chief executive of the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
Jevans has been elected as vice-chair at the All England Club with a view to succeeding Ian Hewitt as chair at the end of July.
Following her election, Hewitt said: “Debbie has a valuable combination of skills and experience gained over a long career in sport, both as a former professional tennis player and through a number of leadership roles within high-profile sports organisations as well as her many years of service on the club committee.
“This equips her well for the role and I look forward, as planned, to handing over as chair after the championships 2023 and wish Debbie all successes as we continue with our ambitions.”
