Wimbledon 2022: Why Kate Middleton always wears the same accessory to The Championships

Wimbledon 2022 is in full swing, with 42,000 people expected to descend on the famous London grounds everyday until it finishes on July 11. Amongst the thousands of people set to attend the event, there will, undoubtedly, be plenty of famous faces to spot.

The Royal Family is quite the fan of Wimbledon, with many members attending over the years. Kate Middleton, is a particularly big fan and often wows the crowd with her sophisticated outfits.

The Duchess of Cambridge has attended the event alongside her husband, the Duke of Cambridge, her sister, Pippa Middleton, her dad, Michael Middleton, and sister-in-law, Meghan Markle. Although her company and outfits have varied over the years, there is one accessory that the Duchess of Cambridge tends to wear to the huge sporting event.

Catherine is a big fan of tennis, having recently been spotted playing tennis with her children at the Hurlingham Club, an exclusive sports club in London. The 40-year-old is also a patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, and has previously had lessons from none other than Swiss professional tennis player Roger Federer.

Every time the Duchess of Cambridge goes to Wimbledon, she seems to wear the same green and purple bow, which are the official colours of the club. The only people allowed to wear these colours are the patron (Kate), president, committee of management, vice presidents, and four members of executive staff.

Whilst women tend to wear the ribbon how Kate chooses to, men who are allowed to wear the colours tend to wear the bow, a green and purple necktie, or sometimes, both. Philip Brook, a former chairman, has been known to wear both.

It is not yet known whether the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be making an appearance at this year's event as senior working members of The Firm tend to announce their attendance the day before their arrival, or even on the day of. Less senior members of the Royal Family, such as Princess Eugenie, tend to not announce their arrival at all.

The Duchess missed out on a very important match back in 2013 as she was advised not to go whilst pregnant with her first child, Prince George. 2013 was the year that Andy Murray became the first British man to win the final in 77 years.

The mum-of-three was featured on Our Wimbledon, a BBC documentary by Sue Barker, in 2017, when she explained to Sue why she was unable to attend. She said: "I was very heavily pregnant with George so I wasn't able to turn up."

Sue replied: "But you had a great excuse!"

"I know but even still," Kate said. "I sort of was there… 'Maybe I could go' but the doctors were like 'definitely not.'

"I wrote to [Andy Murray] afterwards saying, 'Sorry for not being there, but huge congratulations."
