Prince William is still very “protective” towards Kate and wants to avoid the problems that affected Charles and Diana, said a pal.
The Duke of Cambridge appears a strong family man who has always put his wife and children first, as he gradually takes on more responsibility with the Queen becoming more frail.
He now looks comfortable in his role as second in line to the throne and even his relationship with Charles is a lot stronger than it was when he was growing up.
Friends have reportedly told how having a family has given his life more “perspective” and that he is very close to Kate who he sees as being “as important to the institution as he is.”
It was also pointed out that William has taken extra care with Kate as he wanted to avoid the problems that his parents experienced with Charles and Diana divorcing.
"They are so tight, just inseparable. When you speak to William, he’s actually quite puritanical in his attitude when he talks about his parents' marriage and what went wrong," a friend told the Daily Mail.
"It hugely affected the way he approached his own relationship with Catherine and why it took so long for him to settle down. He wanted it to be with the right person and (for it to last) forever. William is still very protective of his wife. The way he sees it, she is as important to the institution as he is. He genuinely admires the way she has just dug her heels in and stuck with it."
Yet his complicated relationship with his brother has had a particular impact when it comes towards William looking after his wife.
Since moving to the United States, the Sussexes have spoken publicly in the media about their problems with the Royal Family with regular attacks on the institution.
In a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, Harry said that he needed to break the cycle and raise his children in a different environment while Meghan Markle alleged she received racist abuse.
William also feels that Kate was “massively disrespected” by Meghan when she told Oprah that she had made her cry.
While Meghan said that Kate had bought her flowers afterwards as an apology, a royal source told the Daily Mail that it was a “peace offering”.
They continued: "Despite much provocation, both William and Catherine have tried to keep the peace more than anyone will ever realise."
Another source added: "Make no mistake, he’s angry. He believes Harry has disrespected the Queen and their family."
