Former Newcastle United goalkeeper Shay Given and ex-Arsenal defender William Gallas were both in agreement Sven Botman should have taken a yellow card and stopped the Gunners' counter-attack in the build up to Gabriel Martinelli's goal. The Dutch defender tried to show the Brazilian winger to the byline, but he managed to get his cross in and it was put into his own net by Fabian Schar.
Gallas told Sky Sports: "We know they can play counter-attacking [Arsenal] in this situation, maybe we can see the player of Newcastle can make a foul. But, they didn't do it.
"I think the defender [Botman] has to be closer to Martinelli to not let him cross the ball. Maybe Schar can be on his toes to react to the cross. When you see him, he's not on his toes and he's surprised to see the ball arrive there."

Given added: "We were just behind the dugout and I felt Botman could go all the way at the start of that move and take a yellow card for the team. Stop the counter attack.
"William mentioned the counter-attack at half-time, it's a brilliant counter-attack from Arsenal but could Botman make a foul on the halfway line? I think Odegaard is going to tap it in behind Schar."
