PANAJI: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday said that he will write to the Union government seeking a ban on the Popular Front of India (PFI) in the country.
“There is no scope for separatist organisations in the state which are a threat to the state’s peace and communal harmony,” Sawant told TOI.
He also said that earlier on three occasions, PFI attempted to disturb communal harmony in the state. “I have the police report on the activities of the PFI and the attempts to disturb communal harmony,” he said.
Sawant said that during the time of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) , PFI were active in Goa trying to create communal disturbance. The CM said that Goa is a peaceful state and people of all religions stay in harmony. “Goa is the only state where the Common Civil Code is implemented.”
Recently Sawant had said that his government would not allow any religious conversions in the state.
“In different parts of the state, some people are taking advantage of the poor from the minority and backward communities by forcing them to religious conversions. Such instances should not take place even by mistake. My government will not allow it," Sawant had said at an idol installation ceremony at Kudnem temple in Bicholim taluka.
He had also called upon the people to be alert about religious conversions and had said, "the temple committee should keep a watch on it".
Referring to the Portuguese rule, Sawant said: “Sixty years ago we believed in dev (god), dharma (religion) and desh (nation). It was believed that if god is protected, then religion will be protected and if religion is protected, then nation will be protected. With these sentiments people of Goa migrated to places with the idols of gods.”
