The Cleveland Browns moved on from veteran JC Tretter last offseason to start former fifth-round pick Nick Harris at center. The team signed veteran Ethan Pocic as insurance and after Harris tore his ACL in the preseason he stepped in and excelled at the position. According to PFF Pocic only allowed 10 pressures and two sacks in 461 pass-blocking snaps.
But it was his impact in the running game that was the best part of his season with the Browns. Pocic was a perfect fit for the Browns zone blocking scheme with a great blend of power and athleticism. He was able to climb to the second level and pull to the outside to open lanes for the running backs.
The Browns have a lot invested in the offensive line but it would be a massive risk to let someone who played so well just walk not knowing if they can replace his production. The biggest question would be how much would cost considering the team already has three big contracts on the offensive line.
The OBR’s Jack Duffin addressed a possible Pocic extension back in December. Jack believes that before the injury Pocic could’ve been around six million per season and that the knee injury could cause him to take a smaller deal. If the Browns could re-sign Pocic for anything under 10 million per season they should make it happen.
