Vladimir Putin sent shock waves across the world this week when he ordered his troops into Ukraine for what he sees as a peacekeeping mission of self-defence, but what the rest of the world sees as an act of aggression and war.
Casualties are already in the hundreds on each side, and further blood is sure to be shed. Fighting continues today and Russian forces have reached Kyiv, Ukraine's capital city.
The western world has voiced its solidarity with Ukraine, with the British, Americans, and Europeans sending arms to Ukraine. So far, no foreign troops are directly involved.
