Will Patrick Bamford start for Leeds United v Liverpool? Injury latest and striker options

Jesse Marsch will be forced to check on the fitness of a handful of players this weekend as Leeds United face Liverpool at Anfield. The head coach revealed at his press conference on Thursday afternoon that five players have picked up issues in the week and therefore changes could be made.

Rodrigo and Joe Gelhardt are amongst those with issues and their absences would leave Marsch with a rather simple choice to make when it comes to selecting who will lead the line. Patrick Bamford may be out of sorts when it comes to his form in front of goal, but there’s a chance he could lead the line as Leeds look to end their eight-game winless run.

Bamford has started just four games this season and despite one or two promising performances, he hasn’t managed to find the back of the net. As such, after starting last week against Leicester City, he dropped to the bench last time out against Fulham.

However, if Bamford were to find the back of the Anfield net, as he did during the 2020-21 campaign, it might just provide the spark Leeds need to get themselves out of relegation zone and away from danger before the World Cup break.

Speaking about injuries within the squad, Marsch said: “Stuart [Dallas] and Adam [Forshaw] are still out in addition, questionable are Leo Hjelde with his appendectomy, and then Joffy, Rodri, Luis, Liam and Tyler are all a little bit in question. We'll see how the next 48 hours goes for all of those players.”

Marsch is limited when it comes to his other striker options, but youngsters Wilfried Gnonto, Sonny Perkins and Mateo Joseph are available.
