Will Mellor won't 'tame down' podcast tour as he shrugs off cancel culture

Will Mellor has insisted he doesn't intend to "tame down" his personality ahead of his upcoming Two Pints Live! podcast tour with Ralf Little.

The actor, 45, admits he is nervous about touring the country with his pal, but is adamant he won't let anyone who is easily offended make the duo hold back on stage.

Will and Ralf, 42, first acted together on the huge sitcom Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps.

The pair set up a podcast in 2020 and after their recordings also proved hugely popular - especially during lockdown - they decided to take the show on the road and are now set to travel the UK together in a camper van.

Despite not having the comfort of an edit button on the live tour, Will insists the eagerly anticipated show won't cater for the minority of people who look to get offended at every slight detail.

Will and Ralf starred in the popular sitcom Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps (BBC)

When asked whether he was afraid of cancel culture ahead of the live shows, he told the Mirror: "I don't direct any hate towards anybody. You know, having a bit of fun, there's a difference [from being nasty].

"I understand that people can get offended. But the problem I've got is if you've got a room of 1,000 people, there's one person that might get offended at something, and we're now catering towards that one person.

"It used to be about the majority and now it's about the minority and some people now who want to get offended will find a way to be offended or anything."

And he confessed it might not matter how nice of a comment you can make, someone could always find a way to take offence.

"The way I am is I speak freely, but I am aware of people so I don't want to try to offend anybody. But you know, it's sometimes like I said, it's hard to not offend people when they want to be offended," he added.

Will revealed the tour is set to be a mix of audience interaction, fun and games between himself and Ralf, and their usual hilarious chit chat.

He revealed it won't simply be the two of them sitting on stage as he wouldn't pay to see that. Instead he teased how the audience will be in for a few surprises.

The former Hollyoaks actor continued: "People are coming to see the Two Pints podcast because they enjoy the pod, so we ain't going to be taming it down."

He admits he is looking forward to seeing how people react to the unscripted show that doesn't have a rigid structure to follow as the pair aim to keep things fresh at each of the 14 venues.

Will recently starred on the Coronation Street cobbles (PA)

The Two Pints With Will and Ralf podcast has seen huge success with over 40 million listens to date.

While the duo often entertain their audience by having a laugh and carry on throughout, they also touch upon more serious subjects from time to time and former Corrie star Will says he's thrilled the podcast has helped people - including himself - with their mental health.

Will, who is connected to the Kaleidoscope Plus Group health and well-being charity, says there are so many levels to mental health and says it's "always good to share and open up, even if it's easier said than done sometimes".

He said: "For me, talking does help and that's the advice I give when I'm talking. My mantra is talking helps and it's okay not to be okay and to be able to say that without worrying about what might come back the other way.

"However small or however big your problems are, you know, it's always good to share and open up and it's easier said than done sometimes, but you'd be surprised at how much when you do talk that somebody else opens up and says 'I've been like that' and you realise there's other people suffering as well who've been silent.

"So the podcast has helped and through lockdown a lot of people got in touch and said it helped them and gave them something to listen to, to look forward to - especially with the pubs shut. They had a beer with us."
