Will Mellor in tears ahead of this week's Strictly Come Dancing routine

Strictly Come Dancing's Will Mellor broke down hearing this week's song as it has close ties with his late father.

He and his dance partner, Nancy Xu, joined the Loose Women panel to discuss their progress in the competition. Pegged as a potential winner from week one, he and Nancy appear to be going head-to-head with Kym Marsh and Hamza Yassin for the glitterball trophy.

Will clarified it wasn't always smooth sailing as he had to get past his own fear of looking foolish to really get into the groove of things. Nervousness aside, he admitted his upcoming routine left a lasting impression on him.

Discussing the week ahead, Nancy said: "Comparing the week [we had before] to this week has been emotional, it's a challenging week."

Will explained this week's song was one of his late father's favourites and he would regularly sing it to his mother. He said: "I spoke to my mum the other day and I just couldn't get through Monday without crying.

"It was just so hard. It's weird... you think when you lose somebody you think 'The grief is gone and I can talk about it now' and then something happens and it grabs you and I couldn't even talk."

He added: "It was weird, we lost a lot of Monday."

Will and Nancy will be performing a waltz to Three Times A Lady by Commodores. His father, Bill, passed away in 2020 - just two weeks after he was diagnosed with cancer.
