The girlfriend of Will Levis has cleared up any doubts about what she said during the NFL Draft.
The Kentucky Wildcats star’s wait to be selected took considerably longer than was initially expected as his name was not called until the second round. The quarterback sat nervously in the green room with his nearest and dearest including his partner Gia Duddy.
While sitting next to the athlete, cameras picked up that the Instagram model was mouthing something and some fans claimed she said she ‘had to pee.’ Taking to her TikTok account, Duddy clarified what she actually said. “So the haters are going to be mad about this one but I hate to break it to you all, I said ‘can that happen’," she explained. "Though I did have to pee the whole time, I said ‘can that happen’”.
Many fans were left scratching their heads following Levis plummeting down the draft selection having been expected to be selected in the top ten. The NFL star’s sister Kelley Levis, who was with him on draft night, sent out a message of encouragement on Instagram after the surprising news. "Now let’s show ‘em," she wrote, as Levis was eventually selected by the Tennessee Titans, the 33rd overall draft pick.
Levis threw for 2,406 yards, 19 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while successfully completing 65.4% of his passes in his 11 games last season. The 23-year-old is keen to not let his omission from the draft's first round derail his mission to carving out a successful NFL career.
“It's not going to change my work ethic, regardless if I went first overall or 33rd,” he said. “I can't let the circumstances dictate my work ethic. I ended up where I was meant to be, and I'm just looking forward to competing and getting started."
Following his selection, the delighted Duddy took to social media to congratulate her beau on his latest achievement. "It’s hard to put in words what it’s like watching your best friend’s dreams come true," she wrote on Instagram. "Proud would be an understatement— I don’t know anyone more deserving. Time to get back to work @will_levis . TITAN UP.”
Writing in his "Football Morning in America" column, NFL journalist Peter King explained why Levis was drafted much lower than expected. "Will Levis didn’t go 33rd instead of 11th or fourth because he stinks. It’s mostly because the teams between four and 33 didn’t have an essential need for a quarterback who’s not a sure thing," he penned.
"Seattle and Vegas have signed vets to manage in the short-term, Washington and Atlanta have committed to give young kids a legit chance, and Tampa Bay had many bigger needs than replacing Baker Mayfield.
"Plus, you heard so much about how great the tight end class was. But there was only one tight end picked in the first round because, of course, the supply was so deep. Levis didn’t sink like a stone. He was the fourth-most-desired quarterback in a year when the vast majority of teams had bigger needs."
