The New England Patriots are reportedly not expected to hire a new general manager after splitting with Bill Belichick. That has left many to question how the organization will operate on the personnel side of things.
Patriots director of player personnel Matt Groh and director of scouting Eliot Wolf are expected to have expanded roles when it comes to those decisions. However, according to MassLive’s Mark Daniels, Chris Mason and Karen Guregian, a source theorized the possibility of newly-hired coach Jerod Mayo also having a say in the personnel decisions.

A source theorized that Mayo could have some real input when it comes to the team’s personnel department. Although the new coach won’t have as much power as Belichick, it appears he’ll have a significant say on how his team is built through the draft, free agency and trades.
Former Patriots legendary safety Devin McCourty not only predicted Mayo would be the successor to Belichick, but he also claimed the coach gives off “CEO vibes”.
It seems as if the Patriots could be considering a collaborative approach to the decision-making. That’s a significant change-up from the days of one man running all of the operations.
It’s also a unique one in the face of a crucial rebuild in the 2024 offseason.
